Vinyl replacement windows in Amarillo, TX

Most Panhandle window replacements are vinyl: a PVC frame with insulated glass, built to fit your existing openings. It is the usual upgrade from older aluminum windows with fogged or drafty glass.

A good fit if you have

  • Older aluminum windows that sweat, draft or have fogged glass
  • Rooms that run hot in summer sun or cold near the glass in winter
  • Windows that stick, won't lock or won't stay open
  • An inspection report that flags failed seals

Trade-offs

  • Vinyl expands more than other frame materials, so dark colors need a factory cap or laminate; painting white frames dark can void the warranty.
  • Vinyl frames are bulkier than aluminum, so the glass area can be a little smaller.
  • Insert installs keep your trim but can't fix hidden rot; full-frame costs more but opens the wall.

What to check on a quote

  • The NFRC label. U-factor (heat loss, lower is better), SHGC (solar heat let in, lower blocks more), visible transmittance and air leakage (lower is better).
  • ENERGY STAR. Version 7 criteria depend on climate zone; in the North-Central zone a window needs a U-factor of 0.25 or lower and SHGC of 0.40 or lower.
  • Safety glass where code requires it, such as glass within 24 inches of a door with its bottom edge under 60 inches.

Cost

About $300 to $2,100 per window installed, $850 on average, national 2026 range.
